Just a small increase in greenspace associated with fewer preventable deaths in deprived neighbourhoods
A study from Queen’s University, Belfast found an increase of greenspace in deprived urban areas of England, Scotland and NI was associated with fewer preventable deaths. The researchers found that with every 1% increase of greenspace in a geographical area in England the annual count of preventable deaths among the most deprived urban neighbourhoods was 37% lower. In NI and Scotland the 5 year accumulated count of preventable deaths was lower by 37% and 41% respectively.
