Meatless Monday to be implemented in all state schools across NYC

New York City’s mayor Bill de Blasio announced this week that all state schools across the city will have Meatless Mondays from this Autumn.  This follows a successful trial of 15 schools that proved to be both ‘cost effective and popular with students’.

Staten Island Borough President James Oddo said, “For those who scoff at this notion, I have some simple advice: Look at the science.  Look at the data.  Look at childhood obesity.  Look at pre-diabetes diagnoses.  Look at the fact that 65% of American kids aged 12-14 show signs of early cholesterol disease.  Then perhaps you will embrace the fact that we can’t keep doing this the same way.”
