Processed meat linked to an increased risk of breast cancer in post menopausal women

Researchers at the University of Glasgow found that post menopausal women who eat processed meat including bacon and sausages have an increased risk of developing breast cancer.  The study published in the European Journal of Cancer involving 260,000 British women concluded that post menopausal women who eat 9g or more of processed meat a day are a fifth more likely to develop breast cancer than those who abstain from eating processed meat.  The study also found that post menopausal women who eat less than 9g of processed meat are still 15% more likely to develop breast cancer than those who abstain from eating processed meat.

NOTE:  A traditional English breakfast of 2 sausages and 2 bacon rashers is equivalent to 150g of processed meat.
